Does a promissory note became null and void upon marriage?

My soon to be ex-husband signed a promissory note to me before we got married. His attorney is saying that it was premarital and no longer counts. I live in Iowa, does anyone know the law reqarding this matter? Please help!

I am not 100% … but I am pretty sure that because it was signed before you got married, it still stands. If it were signed while you were married, than it would be void. Double check with your lawyer.

A promisorry note can only be voided by a judge.

It depends on what has been promised to you. For example, if something might be considered joint property was given to you as a gift or promised to you in that note, then it’s still valid.

Second opinion, especially where lawyers are concerned may be expensive but tend to be a good idea.
