My boyfriend and I are not wanting to get married yet, but we have a child on the way and want to make sure that all of us are covered under his insurance. What is the difference between a domestic partnership and marriage? If domestic partnership is not recognized federally- would this information need to be included on the FAFSA?

What about taxes?

Thanks.

  • Hmmmm.....:

I don’t think straight people qualify to be domestic partners, sorry. Legally you can marry, gays in most places can’t, hence why they invented the BS seperate but “equal” heading for them.

  • Spencer:

Domestic partnerships are for same sex couples. If your raising a child together, just go to the courthouse and sign the papers. You don’t even need to change your last name or tell anybody, except insurance providers and tax forms.
