Can I still make backups of my DVD’s using legal software?

Author: I’ve noticed a lot of DVD’s coming out recently have the DVD copy protection, so they can not be copied illegally. But what about the software that is designed for people to backup their personal collection of DVD’s, in case something happend to the origonals, they have not lost it forever. Is there software to purchase so that I can still make backups even of the copy protected DVD’s? Or are the copy protected ones protected from any and ALL copying?
